"Helen Mirren and Bruce Willis Pull Out the Big Guns for 'Red'," the ETOnline headline tells us.

Helen Mirren went from playing the dainty Queen Elizabeth in 'The Queen' to a fully-loaded action star in 'Red.' Co-stars Bruce Willis and Karl Urban told ET at Comic-Con that they were blown away by her intensity.

"I am telling you, sexiest thing I have ever seen, Helen Mirren win [sic] a sniper rifle. Hot!," commended Karl. Bruce nodded in approval, "Helen, 50-caliber machine guns, impressive."

If one were to rely on current headlines (and why wouldn't we?), we could only conclude that a typically anti-gun media is just gaga over Helen and guns.

Do a Google search on terms "Helen Mirren" gun and see for yourself. She's "bad@$$"! She's "awesome"!

Now do a search for "Helen Mirren" Oxfam.

Read her own words in support of global citizen disarmament. Understand her total conviction that "it's too easy to buy a gun."

Then hear Helen do the voice-over in one of the more hysterical anti-gun propaganda efforts I've yet seen (and I've seen a lot), where she joins Mothers Against Guns to call for "a total ban of replica guns."

Presumably just not the replica guns she uses to make millions with...

How do you define hypocrisy? Sounds like she might be the poster person for that word. If the money is good enough is she for sale? Bring another word to mind as well. But then how many times have we seen Hollywood people switch sides when the paycheck was big enough.

Helen Mirren is an actor and a talented one. She is very good at pretending to be someone she is not. Writers to tell her what to say and a director to tell her what to do while she says it. This make it really amazing to me that her opinion is valued on any subject except how to act.

Typical progressive hypocrisy. She just proves the progressive motto: It's not (fill in the blank) when I or we do it. Also, I would like someone to answer this question, why do the progressives in Hollywood think their opinion on ANYTHING matters to ANYONE? In case you idiots in Hollywood don't realize this, you are entertainment! Quite frankly, most if not all of you amount to a wart on the ass of society.

What's the difference between an actress who gets money for showing off
her nude or partially nude body, and a prostitute who gets money for what she
    or he does?
The actress might say that it is an art form.
The prostitute can boast of the same thing.

She can't touch the cast of "The Departed".

Cool movie. Lots of subplots and everybody is doublecrossing everyone else. They all die by gunshot. And they are all played by rabidly anti-gun actors.

"But then how many times have we seen Hollywood people switch sides when the paycheck was big enough."

And you might be surprised who:

"Anyway, prominent individuals from every walk of life were persuaded to join in the support of the anti-gun movement. One typical news story, was released from Hollywood and carried its message in the caption 'Five Quick-Draw Movie Stars Plead For Stiff Gun Control.' An excerpt from the release itself read:

"'Five gunslinging movie stars urged citizens Tuesday to ask their senators and congressmen to vote in favor of gun-control laws.

"'Gregory Peck, CHARLTON HESTON, Hugh O'Brian, James Stewart and Kirk Douglas, who have been seen on the screen many times squeezing off shots at the villains, made the plea in a statement distributed to newsmen.' (Chicago Daily News: June 19, 1968)"

Possession of Firearms in America" by Robert J. Kukla.

Ever since Jennifer O'Neill (Summer of '42) shot herself in the stomach with her convicted-felon-husband's "illegally owned" pistol in NYC back in 1972, I've been aware of the blatant hypocrisy of the left in matters of gun control, among other things. The bitter pill has always been the fact that they don't really want to ban ALL guns; they just want to ban ours. They're perfectly happy to keep theirs.

Anyone willing to bet Helen Mirren is a British Rosie O'Donnell? She probably has armed bodyguards.

  • JohnH 1 year ago

Notice her tee-shirt and Google search Harvey Pekar, a self described strident leftist. Need more be said? This is a main reason we buy the bulk of our video entertainemt at yard sales and pawn shops. Unless they are acting, actors are mostly to be devoutly ignored. A few walk thier screen play talk, Tom Selleck comes to mind as does this man,

‘‘The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they will win and the decent people will lose.’’

    — James Earl Jones, Actor

There are some who deserve our whole hearted support.

    parabarbarian,
Helen Mirren is an ACTRESS, ACTORS are male. If this is not true then why is there a best ACTRESS and Best ACTOR Academy award?

  • Luis 1 year ago

    To Henry Bowman:

I was surprised to see Charlton Heston's name as one of the five who pleaded for gun control, in the aftermath of Bobby Kennedy's assassination. However, he changed his attitude later on, to being pro-gun. The other four guys didn't. I'm actually just as surprised at seeing Jimmy Stewart's name on that list. He fought in WWII, against a regime for whose gun control edicts became the model for our Gun Control Act in 1968.

Sorry Mark but parabarbarian is correct. The word "actor" refers to a person who acts regardless of sex. The word "actress" refers specifically to a female actor; therefore a female can be referred to by either term. You can look it up in OED.

All celebrities are hypocrites, they can't not be and do what they do.

I don't take my cues from any of them, they're trained and meant to entertain me, nothing more. I couldn't care less what Mirren says about guns, as I don't give any credence to it.

And Mark, everyone else is correct. Actor is sufficient to describe anyone that acts, male or female.

    Same with Waiter....

I don't mind the terms waitress or actress, but apparently, it was so awfully offensive to some, that it's now not the PC thing to say....

    BTW

I fully support the 2nd amendment and our right to bear arms.

If you don't like it (anyone) then that's not my issue.

Just make sure you don't break into my house.

Why would anyone believe what an actor/actress says?

Henry Bowman shared with us the names of the Big 5 traitors that signed a letter supporting the crime bills we call the 68GCA today.

The crime bills that became the 68 GCA were setting around Washington for several years but when Joey Bishop on his talk show made the issue public using his so called star power the issue went mainstream

Needles to say the symbiotic relationship the 68GCA has to the Illinois FOID card is an important and notable part of its passage

The Chicago Daley machine along with Governor Kearner forced gun control in Illinois as a precursor to building support for the 68GCA

LBJ rewarded Kearner by making him head of a commission to study the cause

LBJ rewarded Kearner by making him head of a commission to study the cause of the race riots

The idea of gun control was presented to all players involved, the firearms industry (mainly Colt) gun rights groups (NRA) and both political parties.

With the NRA having compromised and brow beat Illinois gun owners into submission using the Delphi technique at their town hall meetings held state wide the seed was sown.

The Star Power of the NRA’s Heston combined with others pushed the legislation forward giving the politicians the political cover they needed

Later in an interview with Alex Jones, Heston said in his final comment he believed his support for the 68 GCA was wrong (I heard the interview live although the transcript leaves out his final comment)

Bottom line is Star power can destroy a nation and cause otherwise good men to do bad things

I heard Heston say his support for the 68GCA was wrong and I forgive him, the rest can burn

David I realize your article is about the hypocrisy of Hollywood Stars that make millions shooting guns in the movies then want to disarm the rest of us.

But I’ve often wondered why none of the gun rights examiners haven’t written more about how Hollywood the NRA, politicians and the firearms industry conspired or at least found common ground to pass the 68 GCA

Realize gun control made millions for the NRA by energizing people to become dues paying members and supporters.

The firearms industry received tariffs for their support, the politicians got more power and Hollywood got million s of free publicity.

It was a WIN, WIN for everyone but the American people and the Bill of Rights!

And 42 years later nothing has changed because the spineless voters in Illinois in general and Chicago in particular are happier as sheep than they would be as men.

I'd like to see evidence of the ad's claim that "replica" guns are being converted into "real" guns, and that it is a significant crime problem. False advertising, maybe?

This is exactly why I quit going to movies 5 years ago. I try as hard as I can NOT to support any person, company or organization that is anti-gun. Why would I want to give my support and money to anything thats against my 2A rights?

  • madashell 1 year ago

DDS makes a good point for the last 42 years the lame brain voters of Illinois (providing votes actually count in Illinois) have allowed their State to become a sewer just like the people of the USA have allowed Star power to influence their minds away from Freedom

(Me thinks this might be 2 things that DDS and I have agreed upon)

"An enemy of liberty is no friend of mine. I do not owe respect to anyone who would enslave my by government force, nor is it wise for such a person to expect it." - Isiah Amberay.
Damned shame, too. I think Helen Mirren is one of the few great actresses performing today.
