A warm handshake and a smile go a long way in the Catskills. No one knew that better than Helen Kutsher, who spent most of life catering to the guests of Kutsher’s Country Club. Kutsher died of natural causes on Tuesday in Philadelphia, according to a March 20 Associated Press report. The family matriarch was 89.
“She was more than the greeter, she was the heart of the hotel,” her daughter Mady Prowler fondly recalls. “She always sent people birthday cards and had little gifts for the grandchildren. She made sure people felt that they were pretty special.”
Prowler is not the only one with fond memories of Kutsher’s touch. Neil Gilberg notes that her death is “truly the end of an era,” reports the Times Herald-Record. According to Gilberg, personal touch was the cornerstone of Kutsher’s welcoming routine, including everything from gifts to greeting cards and personal notes for guests and staff.
Funeral services will held for Kutsher on March 21 at Garelick's Funeral Home in Monticello.
