Heidi Klum's and Kate Upton's celebrity diet guru David Kirsch unveils top tips

Celebrity fitness and diet guru David Kirsch's list of clients reads like a roll call for Hollywood's sleekest stars: Heidi Klum, Kate Upton and Kelly Ripa are just a few of the celebs who have obeyed his work-it commands. So when David visited Katie Couric's stage on Dec. 20, she made it clear that she felt somewhat out of her league.

But David offered this consoling message: No one, not even those Victoria Secret models, are born with great legs and a fabulous body. They have to work for it, he told Katie encouragingly as she looked dubious.

"Sexy, toned, long and lean,” he said when describing the goals of his killer leg routine.

David has put his workout routine into fitness DVDs: "David Kirsch's Sound Mind Sound Body Ultimate Fitness Boot Camp" (click for details) and "The Ultimate New York Body Plan" (click for details).

"How important [is diet] to having great legs?” Katie asked.

“It’s huge,” David emphasized.

And about that diet? David calls it the New York Body weight loss plan, and he's detailed it in a book "The Ultimate New York Body Plan: Just 2 weeks to a total transformation" (click for details). To achieve the results that he promises, you'll need to follow the A, B, C, D, E, and F of nutrition for two weeks, says David:

  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Bid bread farewell.
  • Cut out starchy carbohydrates like potatoes, rice and pasta.
  • Dump the dairy for two weeks.
  • Avoid extra sweets, including sugar substitutes.
  • Be wary of fruit and most fats. What you can eat: Seven to 10 raw almonds daily.

After the two weeks are over, David has crafted a plan to keep you refining your body: "Sound Mind, Sound Body: David Kirsch's Ultimate 6 Week Fitness Transformation for Men and Women."

To get those A-list legs, David recommends:

  • Reverse crossover lunges
  • Plié toe squats to tone your outer thigh, while shaping and tightening.
  • Sumo Lunges to lean you out. Make sure to do 15 to 20 repetitions for each exercise.
