Heavyweight legend Vitali Klitschko is elected mayor of Kiev

Former WBC heavyweight titlist Vitali Klitschko was elected mayor of Kiev on Sunday.

Klitschko (45-2, 41 KOs), one of the central figures of the Euromaidan protests, unofficially won 57 percent of the capital city's vote.

"All change will begin in Kiev," said Klitschko, 42, who helped other opposition leaders successfully force the resignations of President Viktor Yanukovych and his cabinet members in February.

Initially determined to become Ukraine’s president in 2015, Klitschko instead withdrew his candidacy on March 29 and endorsed businessman Petro Poroshenko.

"These elections are very important for Klitschko," said Kiev's Penta political studies centre analyst Volodymyr Fesenko. "His success on this job will determine his political future."

A natural commander with the strong backing of his countrymen, Klitschko’s primary responsibilities will be to manage the budget and oversee tax collection from Ukraine's largest and most profitable companies.

In actuality, despite supporting Poroshenko, “Dr. Ironfist” is clearly the legitimate face of the Eastern European state.

Amazingly, although a future Hall of Fame prizefighter, the 6-foot-7, 247-pound Klitschko has already created a more powerful career outside of the squared circle.

Expect Vitali Klitschko to experience “success on this job” and have a knockout “political future.”
