An unusually wet October has led to a major decrease in the overall attendance at the 150th Mississippi State Fair.
Over 7 inches of rainfall has fallen this month across the Jackson area with 3.50 to 4.50 inches since the State Fair began on October 7th.
Rain fell 9 out of 13 days during the State Fair.
As a result, the overall attendance dropped significantly by nearly 200,000 from just one year ago, with 496,451 visitors.
This is the second lowest crowd to the Mississippi State Fair in the last 15 years.
The only year within the last 15 years with a lower attendance was in 2004, with a crowd of 421,273. Rain was the main reason for the decrease that year as well with 2 to 4 inches of rainfall reported across the Jackson area.
