Heavy Mojo, Planet Rawk & Detroit Mutant Radio at Smith’s Olde Bar Friday night

This weekend there is a whole lot of things happening in the Atlanta area. There are music shows galore at venues all about town, the Hawks are in town, there are college hoops oh yeah and the Falcons have a game too. With everything that is going on, there is one place that you need to get to on Friday night, and that is Smith’s Olde Bar. You can miss everything else but you cannot miss the ‘Afropunk Rawk Party’ that will be taking place upstairs at the legendary music venue. Four Atlanta groups will take the stage and treat all who enter the establishment with a night of music like no other.

Planet Rawk, Heavy Mojo and Detroit Mutant Radio will crank up the amps and deliver some brain swelling music full of blistering guitars, thunderous rhythms, funky beats and soulful melodies.

Planet Rawk delivers what they call alternative hip-hop. Using synthesizers, guitars and a thumping bass line Rawk gives a fresh take to the genre. There songs are meaningful and personable which leads to a better brand of music. Their live shows are nothing less than high octane as they deliver the tunes loud and fast.

Heavy Mojo will be dishing out their balls to the wall powerful hip-hop rock that fans know and love. Lyricists B-Dirty, Simon Stone and Priest will be dolling out the vocals as they lay down the gospel about life, hip-hop and Atlanta. Their backing band effortlessly moves from rock, to punk, to soul to hip-hop as musical chameleon Jeremy Avalon leads the way with his vicious guitar playing. Playing in front of a crowd is where Mojo is the most comfortable with shows that fall somewhere between Public Enemy and the Sex Pistols. When their set ends the crowd is just as exhausted as they are. You do not want to miss them.

Continuing the theme of rock infused hip-hop is Detroit Mutant Radio. Their rock based hip-hop is a musical fusion of multiple genres that mutates into one sweet sound. Their music will reach from the stage reach inside the listener’s skulls and take them on a musical journey through a world of their own creation. Get their early so you can catch their impressive live act.

Finally there is Jubee and the Morning After. With a sweet soulful sounds and refreshing pop melodies, their brand of hip-hop is just right to ease everyone into the music before the auditory onslaught that is coming later.

There you have it, a line-up of killer music for you to go out and experience. Get out of the house, grab some food then get to Smith’s for some cold beverages and some ear blistering music. You are not going to find anything like this on TV, so get off the couch expose yourself to some of Atlanta’s finest.
