Heaviest baby born in China weighs in at 15.5 pounds

Babies seem to be getting bigger and bigger, Just last week a woman in Iowa gave birth to an almost 14 pound baby and she did it naturally with no epidural.

Now, a record has been set this week when a 15.5 pound baby was born in the city of Xinxiang, China, being the heaviest baby born in China, reported by the Times of India.

Chun Chun was delivered via caesarean section. Both the mother and baby boy are doing fine.

The mother Wang Yujuan, 29, told reporters her pregnancy felt different than her previous one.

"I clearly felt that my body was more clumsy than when I had been pregnant with my daughter. My belly was bigger than it was then."

Her husband, Han Jingang, told the Sun his wife didn't do anything unusual during  pregnancy and was delighted she gave birth to "such a big, fat son."

Last year a Texas woman gave birth to a 16 pound baby.

Researchers say when it come to high birth weight the baby's genes, or genes shared between mother and child, contribute to high birth weight. And if a mother gains a lot of weight during pregnancy that can also contribute to large birth weight baby. High birth weight was defined as 8.8 pounds or heavier.

Many times when a mother and baby are big it can lead to gestational diabetes. According to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, there are a few possible conditions that a large birth weight newborn of a diabetic mother might face.
