"Heaven Is for Real" debuted at No. 1 for movies on demand from July 21 to July 27, 2014, according to Rentrak. In the drama "Heaven Is for Real" (based on a true story), Greg Kinnear stars as Todd Burpo, a small-town pastor whose son Colton (played by Connor Corum) claims to have visited heaven during a near-death experience. Colton recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-of-factly about things that happened before his birth — things he couldn't possibly know. Todd and his family are then challenged to examine the meaning from this remarkable event. "Heaven Is for Real" got mostly negative reviews from critics but was a box-office hit.

"Transcendence" debuted at No. 2. Dr. Will Caster (played by Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed — to be a participant in his own transcendence. Also starring Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy and Kate Mara. "Transcendence" bombed with critics and in theaters.

"Sabotage" debuted at No. 3. In the action flick "Sabotage," Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the leader an elite DEA task force that takes on the world's deadliest drug cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house, they think their work is done — until, one-by-one, the team members mysteriously start to be eliminated. Also starring Terrence Howard, Sam Worthington, Olivia Williams, Joe Manganiello and Mirielle Enos. Most movie critics disliked "Sabotage," which flopped at the box office.

"Tyler Perry's The Singles Moms Club" debuted at No. 4. When five struggling single moms put aside their differences to form a support group, they find inspiration and laughter in their new sisterhood, and help each other overcome the obstacles that stand in their way. Starring Nia Long, Amy Smart, Cocoa Brown, Terry Crews, William Levy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Zulay Henao and Tyler Perry. "Tyler Perry's The Single Moms Club" was a flop with critics and movie audiences.

"Bad Words" dropped from No. 1 to No. 5. Jason Bateman makes his feature-film directorial debut with the subversive comedy "Bad Words." He stars as Guy Trilby, a 40-year-old who finds a loophole in the rules of The Golden Quill national spelling bee and decides to cause trouble by hijacking the competition. While reporter Jenny Widgeon (played by Kathryn Hahn) attempts to discover his true motivation, Guy finds himself forging an unlikely alliance with a competitor: awkward 10-year-old Chaitanya Chopra (played by Rohan Chand), who is completely unfazed by Guy’s take-no-prisoners approach to life. "Bad Words" got mixed-to-negative reviews from critics and flopped at the box office.
