We eagerly awaited this movie. Now, we know why. It is incredible.
Heaven is for Real is the true story of a small boy who undergoes serious surgery and visits Heaven during the surgery. The boy is Colton Burpo (as eloquently played by Connor Corum) and he just happens to be the son of Reverend Todd Burpo, as played by a convincing Greg Kinnear.
Neither the reverend, nor the boy's mother Sonja Burpo (Kelly Reilly), know what to make of their son's experiences. So, Mr. Burpo reaches out to the community, looking for insight. The first person he seeks out to is a Ph.D. at a university and she is simply not on the same page.
The next few people are his church members, in various social settings and none know what to think. We won't blow the ending for you. But, the movie resonated for us. It was pure, honest and lends a real image of what Christianity can be. Not what is hateful. Not what is a bizarre Biblical translation. Not preachy. It just is.
Eight days prior to the release of Heaven is for Real, TIME released, "Visions of Heaven." We will be reviewing that shortly.
Church Member: Do you believe he was in Heaven?
Church Member: I got questions. We all do, Todd.
Colton: As long as I'm with you, I'm not afraid.
Colton: I saw angels and they were singing to me.
Colton: Nobody wears glasses in Heaven.
Colton: She told me she died in your tummy.
Colton: That's Him (Jesus).
Dr. Slater: I don’t mean to discount whatever magic you derive from all this.
Nancy: For awhile, pain was all I had.
Sonja: Why can’t this just be a mystery?
Todd: As long as I'm with you, I'm not afraid.
Todd: Is Heaven a hope...?
Todd: Where are you? We're right here. Praying.
Todd: You gonna take my boy?...Don't you take my son!
