A long standing and successful program here in our valley, Pups on Parole is the dog adoption program managed through HCWAS and is run through women’s correctional facilities. The inmates are trained to care for the dogs and train the dogs on basic commands, thus preparing them for adoption. While rehabilitating the dogs, the inmates are given important jobs and a feeling of value and accomplishment. An interesting statistic as noted on the entity website – over 100 inmates have participated in the program, been released from prison and have never been returned. Several have focused their new lives in dog related positions such as trainers and groomers.
Donations and volunteers are needed for this and other activities. For more information, contact 702-227-5555.
