Heaven Born: help for coping with early miscarriage

When someone has a miscarriage, it's often hard to know what to say or do. For the person who suffers the miscarriage, it can be an isolating and very emotional time.

After having a miscarriage at 11 weeks, Maureen Day decided part of her healing process would be to help others. In 2002, she started a non-profit project called Heaven Born.  This group offers handmade pillows for early miscarriage losses. The pillows are made of soft fleece and washed with baby detergent. She also includes a booklet tucked inside a small pocket on the front of the pillow. The booklet gives advice on coping with the physical and emotional pain of miscarriage.  You can order a pillow for yourself or have one sent to a loved one who needs encouragement and support.

Maureen also has a craft community for small groups to sew pillows on their own. Materials and instructions are provided for making the pillows. You can contact Maureen at maureen@heavenborn.com for information on starting a group in your area.
