It's August. It's hot. You bring your dog everywhere. Don't think that a brief separation from you will be fine, if you leave your dog in the car. Others had the same thought - with tragic consequences.
People who leave the windows open a crack think that the tragedy won't happen. The truth is that the crack does little to save the dog from a tragic death. In fact, researchers learned that when it's a sunny 78 degrees, the temperature in a parked car with windows cracked rises at least 32 degrees in 30 minutes. A temperature of 78 degrees will rise to 110 in half an hour. Now imagine the effect on a hot, summer day of 85 or 95 degrees.
Some owners of deceased pets have left air conditioners running as they made a brief stop in a store. Imagine their reaction when the car stopped for any reason. Again, it just doesn't make sense to risk the life of your dog.
This tragedy could happen to anyone. In the UK a K9 Police Officer left his canine partner in a car with lethal result. In Greenville, South Carolina the dog in the picture shown in this post was left in a car by a veterinarian, Dr. Daniel Randall. Fortunately, the quick actions of trained professionals at a fully stocked vet's office saved Max the Boston Terrier - after heat stroke began to shut down his organs. He's the lucky one.
