It was a hot day in Newcastle as the Jets welcomed Adelaide United and that heat clearly took its toll on the match as both teams failed to inspire in a scoreless draw at Hunter Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Adelaide United dominated the early going but the Jets were solid defensively, although not always using legal means, to prevent the Reds from scoring.
Bruce Djite was almost sent clean through but the ball was blocked by Emile Heskey, replays suggesting by his hand which left Adelaide United furious.
After a drinks break in the 25th minute the Jets started to string together some possession but were unable to create any real challenges as Eugene Galekovic was rarely challenged.
The Jets had a solid chance five minutes from the break as Ryan Griffiths saw his chance saved with the rebound falling to James Brown who saw his effort blocked and cleared, which was as good as it would get as the half ended scoreless.
There was bad news to start the half for Newcastle as Emile Heskey was unable to return due to a quad injury, which brought Adam Taggart on for the second 45.
Adelaide started the second half well but again the Newcastle defense was solid especially when the ball entered the area, easily clearing the chances that came in.
Newcastle were handed a golden opportunity in the 57th minute as Griffiths played Taggart clean through allowing the youngster to shoot low across the face of goal only to be denied by a Galekovic save.
The match was well and truly hurt by the conditions as neither side really troubled the opposition keeper and eventually faded out to a scoreless draw.
