The Miami Heat today announced the trade of guard Roger Mason Jr. to the Sacramento Kings for a “future conditional” second-round pick in the 2014 NBA draft.

Signed as a free agent late last September, Mason appeared in 25 games for the Heat with two starts. He averaged 3.0 points and 10.4 minutes a game, shooting 37.3 percent from the field.

Mason Jr. appeared in 25 games (two starts) for the HEAT this season and averaged 3.0 points and 10.4 minutes a game while shooting 37.3 percent from the field.

His last appearance, however, was Jan. 26 when he played five minutes in a Heat win over San Antonio. His season high was 12 points a win over Detroit back on Dec. 8, when he played a season-high 23 minutes.

Mason’s role as a fill-in when starter Dwyane Wade needed rest for his tender knees or other issues recently was taken over by recent Heat acquisition Toney Douglas. Mason had been listed as “inactive” in several recent Heat games.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel noted that the Heat is likely to receive nothing in return because of the protection on the draft pick would require the Kings to have one of the best records in the NBA next season.

The Heat end a stretch of six consecutive road games tonight when they take on the Thunder in Oklahoma City. TNT will telecast the clash of the 2012 NBA Finalists starting at 8 p.m. ET. The Thunder won the first meeting between the two 112-95 on Jan. 29 in Miami.
