Frigid weather may be racing into Wisconsin for the final days of 2013, but Badger State runners are bundling up for Run into the New Year on Tuesday, December 31.
The New Year’s Eve running event takes place at the Wisconsin Products Pavilion at State Fair Park, in West Allis. Races include a 5K and a 10K, with prizes for overall top finishers and various age group winners. An untimed Kid’s Run will be held for youngsters aged three to eight years.
Participants will have access to on-site heated indoor facilities before and after the Run into the New Year race.
Hundreds of runners are expected to link with one another in an attempt to break a world record of 500 linked runners in a single 5K race. Each of these runners has raised $200 to fund research for treating childhood cancer and related blood disorders.
Every advance-registered participant in the Run into the New Year will receive a gender-specific Leslie Jordan tech tee or a unisex Gildan long-sleeved cotton event tee, unless choosing to donate the tee shirt fee to Racers Against Childhood Cancer. Kid’s Run finishers will receive medals.
Post-race refreshments will be provided after the race during a live concert with Chasin Mason.
Run into the New Year is part of the six-race Great Lakes Multisport Running Series.
Online registration closed December 25, but in-person registration may still be available at packet pickup locations and on race day.
Remaining Run into the New Year packet pickup dates include:
- Sunday, December 29 – noon to 4 p.m. – Performance Running Outfitters, Brookfield, Wisconsin
- Monday, December 30 – noon to 7 p.m. – Wisconsin Products Pavilion, State Fair Park, West Allis, Wisconsin
- Tuesday, December 31 – 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. – Wisconsin Products Pavilion, State Fair Park, West Allis, Wisconsin
Race details may be subject to last-minute changes, as always, particularly with Midwestern weather surprises. Participants and spectators are advised to double-check before setting out.
