Prince Philip is back in fine fettle, according to reports from the BBC and the “Eastern Daily Post” this January 1. The Duke of Edinburgh was rushed into hospital just before Christmas, where he was promptly fitted with a coronary stent. The health scare put a crimp in the style of the Royal Christmas, and the Prince spent four impatient nights under the watchful eye of his doctors and nurses.
Still, Prince Philip was grinning when he left on the 28th of December, and headed straight for a family shooting party. Today he walked half a mile to church at Sandringham, accompanied by the Earl and Countess of Wessex. A few hundred well-wishers were there to greet him with a cheer. It was the first time he'd appeared in public since his health scare, and the Queen, wearing royal blue and a big smile, was by his side.
According to the BBC, the service was broadcast to the crowd outside, and the Queen gave an address before receiving flowers from children outside the church. The Duke of Edinburgh walked home alone, while the Queen and her son and daughter-in-law returned by car.
