If Valentine's Day didn't already break your heart, these walking/running events aim to do it.

Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014: The annual Heart Breaker Walk hosted by the Columbia River Volkssport Club takes you from Good Samaritan Hospital on NW 22nd up into elegant neighborhoods and Forest Park before returning through PSU. It usually features many of Portland's hidden stairways. It will give you a tough hill challenge with the 11 kilometer (7 mile) route. They also provide an easier 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) route, and a guided group walking about 2/3 of the route (approx. 4.5 miles).

The walk is offered for free, with donations appreciated. Optional volkssport credit is $3. Register and start at any time from 9 am - 1 pm and finish by 4 pm. The guided group will depart at 10 am. Registration, start and finish are at 1040 NW 22nd Ave, Good Samaritan Hospital (Building #2), Portland, OR. This is the former Devers Eye Institute Building, it has been renamed.

Plan your big walks for the year at the Racecenter NW Event Expo at Foot Traffic NE on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 10 am - 4 pm. This is your chance to talk to race director, pick up brochures, and register for upcoming events. They will have raffles, beer and hot chocolate.

Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014: The fourth annual Providence Heart Breaker Half-Marathon, 10K, 5K and Kid's 1-Mile Dash welcomes walkers and runners to the Helvetia area of Hillsboro. Late registration is available both the morning of the event and the day before at the Foot Traffic NE packet pick-up and Race Fair. I enjoyed this half marathon route last year. It is set up in two loops, giving you a nice option to bug-out halfway through if the weather is really awful. Not that I'd ever do that... Expect hills and lots of rural scenery. Clear your mind of Snowmageddon and get your walk or run on.
