“Heartbeat of Home,” a new production from the husband-wife team “Riverdance” producers of Moya Doherty and John McColgan, made its US debut in Chicago this week.

After playing in Ireland, China and Toronto, the show opened March 5 at the Oriental Theatre for a two week run through March 16, 2014.

Produced by Doherty and directed by McColgan, “Heartbeat of Home,” includes but goes beyond Riverdance’s expert traditional Irish step-dancing to present a still exciting but more global beat by incorporating Afro-Cuban and Latin dance and music.

Choreographed by David Bolger, the production features highly talented, athletic dancers from Ireland, Britain, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Australia, Italy and the United States.

The stirring music of Golden Globe nominated composer Brian Byrne glues the show’s divergent beats and moods as does the fine band with musical director Guy Rickarby.

Audiences should get the impression that Ireland is now home to an international community.
