Heart kabobs

Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean serving unhealthy desserts or lots of chocolate. Serve this healthy Heart Kabob treat to your Valentine, kids, or at your next ladies luncheon.

This treat is made with fresh watermelon, honey dew melon, cantaloupe, and a citrus yogurt dip.

Heart Kabobs with Citrus Yogurt Dip (recipe adapted from Parents Magazine)

Ingredients:

1 cantaloupe

1 honeydew melon

1/2 watermelon

1 6 ounce container plain low-fat yogurt or Greek Yogurt

1 tablespoon frozen orange-juice concentrate, thawed

1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Directions:

  • Cut fruit into 1-inch-thick slices.
  • Using a small heart-shaped cookie cutter cut hearts from melon slices.
  • Poke a hole in each heart with a toothpick, going from top to bottom. Then thread fruit on ice-pop sticks or wooden skewers.

Stir together yogurt, orange juice concentrate, and honey until well combined. Serve alongside fruit kabobs.

Cook’s Note:

If the melon is out of season, you can substitute with berries, bananas, and winter fruit. You may need to sprinkle apples and pears with lemon juice to stop them from turning brown.

For other holidays or party events, cut fruit into bite sized pieces or use any small shaped cookie cutter.
