Hear the Ghost sidelined from the Triple Crown trail (Photos)

Folks who have been fans of Hear the Ghost, one of the favorites, is no longer in contention for the Triple Crown trail. The horse was slightly lame after a routine morning jog recently.

Ghost’s owner Ted Aroney of Halo Farms said, “Hear the Ghost will be sidelined for about 90 days with a small injury to his right front leg.”

A disappointed Aroney continued, “This is the sixth time this has happened to me, having a horse get injured four or five weeks before the Kentucky Derby."

Evidently, the horse was out for a workout jog when he showed “a little off” on his front right leg. An X-ray confirmed a developing problem - the tiniest little line, maybe the beginning of a chip. Aroney said that they will be turning Hear the Ghost out for a while at the Jenny Craig-owned Rancho Paseana in Rancho Santa Fe. The horse will have plenty of time to recuperate at this horse ranch, located near Del Mar.

Aroney confirmed that no surgery would be done at this time since the injury requires only adequate time to heal.

Ghost had been the 5-2 choice at the Santa Anita Derby run on April 6. He was to have been ridded by jockey Corey Nakatani.

Hear the Ghost, the gelded son of Ghostzapper, is trained and co-owned by Jerry Hollendorfer. The horse has won each of his three starts and earned $222,400.
