A Daily Word from the Word for Tuesday, September 24, 2013
“Now therefore, hear the Word of the Lord.” – Amos 7:16
What are you hearing, my brother? What are you paying attention to, my sister? Is it the confusing, chaotic, and deceptive noise of the world? Are you hearing the accusing sound of the symptoms harassing you, telling you that you aren’t going to make it? Or is it the sweet melody of God’s truth raining down on you from Heaven, testifying of God’s goodness and mercy—“you shall live and not die! You are above only and not beneath! You are the head and not the tail! ‘I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future!’” (Psalm 118:17, Deuteronomy 28:13, Jeremiah 29:11). Which report are you confessing, family? Is it the world’s false report, or the good report of the Lord? I pray it is the latter!
The Hebrew word for “now” as used in this verse is attah (pr. at-taw), and means “at this time, straightway” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Isaiah 42:16 straightens things out as it proclaims “I [God] will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.”
What things, situations, circumstances, and relationships do you need straightened out, my brother and sister? Do you really think the crookedness of the world can straighten things out for you? Crooked cannot straighten crooked, broken cannot fix broken, and hurt cannot heal and make whole. Only Jesus, the Living Word of God, can heal every hurt, meet every need, and resolved every issue.
The Word Himself testifies “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” (John 1:1-5). Are you living in darkness? Do you need some light shed on your situation? Then hear the Word of the Lord!
To “hear,” shama (pr. shaw-maw), is to “give ear, listen to make noise, understand.” The “word” or dabar (pr. daw-bawr) is “a matter (as spoken of) or thing. And "therefore,” as used here, comes from the word kane (pr. kane), which means “to set upright.”
Do you need to be straightened out, my brother? Need some things made right in your life, my sister? Well, then you know where to go! You know what to do! So what are you waiting for? Hear, reach up, and grab the Word of the Lord; for it is Truth, and it will re-establish you on God’s firm foundation, restore you, heal you, and make you free.
Father, thank You for Your Word. And thank You for your gift of hearing You. We call upon you to increase our desire to hear You, and to hear you clearly, accurately, and loudly. We rebuke and bind up the voice of the enemy, the voice of the world, and the voice of confusion. We call upon You to settle the matter for us once and for all—with Your Word! In Jesus Name, we thank You that we are not only hearer’s of Your Word, but that we are also doers of Your Most Holy Word (James 1:22). Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to hear the Word of the Lord this day and every day. Choose to lend your ear to God, and to lean attentively on His Word. Seek to hear the Lord your God morning, noon, and night. And continue to fight the good fight of hearing and receiving the truth; for God, your Freedom-fighter, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
