Carrie Underwood's new single, "Good Girl" hit the radio stations Feb. 23, but now it's popped up online for fans to hear in a Youtube audio clip.
The singer may be classified as country, but this new song ... maybe not so much. Without a country star attached to it it would almost certainly be presumed to be a release for the pop charts, and it appears Underwood wants to crossover as successfuly as the poster child of country and pop intermarriage, Taylor Swift.
Ironically, even as Underwood seems to be trading a little country for a little rock and roll, fellow "American Idol" alumnus Kelly Clarkson has been popping up everywhere on the country scene these days, including award shows, and hanging with her new friends, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. Clarkson will be Shelton's second advisor this season on "The Voice" along with wife Lambert.
It seems the musical world is experiencing some kind of genre anarchy.
"Good Girl" is the lead single from Underwood's yet to be named album, due for release May 1. She performed the song Thursday night in Nashville during Sony Music Nashville's annual concert and it's already at the top of the country charts on iTunes and #11 overall.
