Healthy `Valentine’s Day Sweets and Treats’ with Patti Radakovich

Patti Radakovich, Detroit area vegan cook, author, teacher, and healthy lifestyle consultant, is offering a new class: “Valentine's Day Sweets & Treats – Beyond Chocolate.” Patti (also known as VeggiePatti) has created great-tasting, healthy Valentine’s Day treats and will teach participants how to make them for friends, family, and sweethearts .

VeggiePatti focuses on all-natural whole food and plant-based ingredients, and pairs simple combinations to make food that is bursting with flavor. In this class, she will demonstrate how to make healthy treats that are gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and refined-sugar-free! Even those who do eat these ingredients can learn how to make healthier treats and how to use fruit as a natural sweetener. Both cooked and raw treats will be made and there will be an opportunity for hands-on experience. Food samples and recipes will be provided.

The class will be held at Total Health Foods, 2938 Biddle Ave. in Wyandotte on Saturday, February 9, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Please note: Because of the use of fruit, this class may not be appropriate for diabetics. Space is limited, so please RSVP to veggiepatti@gmail.com or 734-246-1208. Cost is $25. For more information, please visit VeggiePatti.com.

VeggiePatti is well-known in the metro Detroit area. She runs “Adventures in Veganland,” a social group for vegans, vegetarians, and veg-curious folks. She recently started a sister group, “Veggie Singles of Southeast Michigan,” for vegetarians who are looking to connect with other veg-heads.

She published her first cookbook, “Simple Joy in Simple Foods,” last January. The book features gluten-free, vegan recipes and is sold on Amazon.com as well as at Total Health Foods in Wyandotte and NutriFoods in Royal Oak. She teaches classes on healthy living at Total Health Foods. She also offers a free Q&A session once a month for anyone interested in becoming a vegetarian, vegan, raw foodist, or gluten-free.

Patti recently started a healthy lifestyle consulting business to further help the community. Her goal is to be able to offer an affordable option for those struggling with creating a healthier lifestyle, including dietary consulting. She even consults with restaurants that are looking to expand their gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan selections.
