I’ve been a medical massage therapist for 7 years. While it’s true that we seek to feel better by seeing a professional (sometimes), it’s also human nature to do things our own way. We don’t like to be told what to do because that’s what everyone else is doing.
As a trained, professional, healthcare provider, I’m here to tell you that you are right in the trend of personal healthcare if you seek to set your own agenda and take care of your body as you see fit. The motto under my business name is “You Always Have a Choice”. Indeed you do. We’ll see if President Obama’s “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” provides us with the choice we seek as we move into 2011.
SELF CARE is a new health trend. One size does not fit all when it comes to what you eat, supplements to take, how much you should weigh, how you respond to the environment, and your pain tolerance. Everyone is different. That’s a scientific fact. Our current healthcare system views everyone as though they are the same and treats them that way. What most people do is not necessarily going to work for you.
The healthy tread toward self care has got plenty of science behind it and a myriad of approaches. What is similar is that no matter how we go about it, we all want to feel better. A desire for well-being is universal. This will be the first in a series of articles on how you can find out what’s healthy for you while still taking into account professional opinion around you.
