Healthy Shamrock Shake (Photos)

It’s now March and it’s also the return of the McDonald’s Shamrock Shakes. For over 35 years the fast food chain has been rolling out these mint-flavored shakes during March to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

These shakes look tasty, don’t they? And sure, you could pull up to the nearest McDonald’s drive-thru for one of those green shakes, but… You may want to pull right into the gym afterward to work off those 540 calories and 16 grams of fat packed into a small 12-ounce serving. If you go for the gold and order the 22-ounce size, you are looking 840 calories and 24 grams of fat! For those of us who are watching what we eat (and who isn’t these days?), we can also enjoy the minty, green shake without all that fat and calories!

Here is a healthier version of the well-loved green shake without the sketchy food coloring and additives. Plus this smoothie is packed with healthy fruits and veggies that you can enjoy all year round!!

Healthy Shamrock Shake

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • 1 scoop Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 1/2 cup low-fat vanilla greek yogurt, frozen
  • 1 kiwi, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 banana, chopped
  • 1/8 tsp pure mint extract
  • 1 packet of Truvia (optional)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

Note: I like to freeze my banana and kiwi ahead of time and add it frozen to the mixture before blending.
