San Jose, CA (February 4)-- Paul Higgins of the San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD) announced today that San Jose Unified students will participate in the 3rd Annual Future Chefs Healthy Salad Challenge tomorrow, February 5, 2013 at the Gunderson High School located at 622 Gaundabert Lane, this city, starting at 1:30 p.m. Kitchen preps will start at 2:30 p.m.; judging to start at 3:30 p.m.; and awarding ceremonies at 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The San Jose Unified School District students will join some 1,750 other students at 943 Sodexo-served school sites in 28 states nationwide. The competition is hosted by education partner and Quality of Life service provider Sodexo.
Before the competition, a total of 139 elementary school students submitted their healthy salad recipes and the ten best were selected to participate in the district-wide finals set tomorrow.
According to Higgins, the finalists will prepare and present their recipes before being assessed on the criteria which include originality, taste, presentation, kid friendliness, and use of healthy ingredients.
Higgins further said that, "San Jose Unified joins more than 140 other school districts across the country holding Future Chefs event throughout February and March.The winning students from each participating district will be considered for 27 regional finalist awards, and the 27 regional finalists will vie to become one of five national finalists competing for public votes for their favorite recipe on a Special Future Chefs YouTube Channel."
