Pita bread is common in many countries, but wasn’t widely introduced in the United States until the 1970s. The way it is baked splits the layers and creates a pocket, very handy for filling – the common usage in the U.S. In many other countries, it’s eaten with various dips.

Hummus is a spread made from ground chickpeas (otherwise known as garbanzo beans), blended with olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice. It is delicious as a dip or as a sandwich spread. If you’re looking for a great source of iron and fiber – this is it!

Because it is lower in fat and calories than most cheeses, feta is a great choice. High in calcium, it’s a healthy addition to your diet.
