Healthy parenting: What's your view on dad who fired pistol at daughter's laptop

Whether you are in a smaller city like Huntsville, Alabama, or a big metro area like nearby Atlanta, you most likely have an opinion on the North Carolina father who shot nine rounds into his daughter's computer.

On Wednesday, Tommy Jordan used the laptop for target practice after the 15-year-old posted a lengthy, deragatory rant about her parents and their child-rearing practices on Facebook. Jordan, who happens to work in Information Technology, videotaped his response to his daughter's post, which he read aloud, before firing nine hollow-point rounds into the laptop.

He posted the video on his Facebook page, with this introduction:

Today was probably the most disappointing day of my life as a father and I don't know how to correct the situation. Since I can't seem to make any headway with my daughter on Facebook, I chose instead to remedy the problem permanently.

While most of the 22,000-plus (as of Saturday morning) Facebook comments are in Jordan's favor, praising his disciplinary actions, a few are not so favorable:

What kid DO NOT complain about chores and their parents?! This guy is crazy and abusive. He is the adult. He should be respectful no matter what his kid is doing. He is resorting to violence to get control over the kid. He is using fear tactics as a way to parent. He is using public humiliation as a tactic for parenting... This guy is immature at best and dangerous at worst. He should not be allowed to own a gun! - Liobov Triufanova

I don't understand. Ya'll are both being very immature about the whole situation. Is your daughter wrong? Absolutely. Are you wrong as an adult? Even more so. - Johnny Hower

Its funny when parents spoil their kids for 15 years and then get mad when they end up self-centered, unappreciative punks.... lol... your problems are your own, sir. - Bobby Jordan

And of course many in Huntsville, home to the popular National Geographic TV series, Rocket City Rednecks, might appreciate this comment:
