On the hunt for a healthy yet quite tasty snack?
When making the transition to eating more whole natural foods, trying to find a packaged snack can be quite a test. Each week I will scour the shelves of natural markets and pick out random on the go snacks that are not only healthy but quite tasty too.
This weeks pick:
LARABAR. Pure, simple, all natural and quite delicious. No, I do not get payed each time I hock the product but it is by far one of the best out there in my opinion.
LARABAR was created back in 2000 by a woman (Lara) who wanted a great tasting, nutritious and portable snack. The business started in her kitchen where she used a food processor, a rolling pin and hand wrapped individual bars. These bars are unprocessed, raw, non GMO (non genetically modified), dairy/gluten/soy/sugar free, vegan and kosher. That's a whole lot for a little bar which on average at most contains five ingredients.
The one thing that may send many people looking the other way for another option is the fat content. On average the bars contain 7-9 grams of fat per serving which may be alot for the 190-220 calories bar however, these are essential fatty acids, 'good fats' that can help prevent heart disease, reduce inflammation and nourish brain tissue along with providing a whole host of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants.
LARABAR comes in a total of 16 flavors:Cinnamon Roll, Peanut Butter and Jelly, Tropical Fruit Tart, Cashew Cookie, Cherry Pie, Cocoa Mole (a combination of cocoa, cinnamon and chili- a daring but delicious flavor combination), Key Lime, Lemon, Banana Bread, Pecan Pie, Coconut Cream Pie, Ginger Snap, Pistachio and Apple Pie. You can find them in the natural food isle of most supermarkets and natural food markets.
