Healthy meals on Facebook to Pinterest

Families are getting tired of the same meals week after week.  Friends are connecting from Facebook to Pinterest.  They are taking pictures and blogging about their love for food.

One member of the community shares a family favorite.  Troy Johnson is a political cartoonist for the Waxahachie Daily Light; He enjoys baking and cooking for his family.  It’s a simple dish to prepare, Hawaiian Haystacks.  It starts with rice followed by the other items, stacking each one.

  • Bed of jasmine rice
  • Chow mein noodles
  • Diced or shredded chicken breast
  • Chicken gravy
  • Shredded cheese of your choice
  • Chopped celery
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Shredded coconut
  • Pineapple chunks
  • Raisins

At the end of a cooking week you may already have some of these toppings.  If you have a favorite topping, you can add that too.  Hawaiian Haystacks is quick and easy to prepare.  The best part is you can tailor the dish to meet everyone’s likes; It’s also great for large crowds.

As previously mentioned in Healthy meals on a budget, create a meal calendar for the month. Aim for healthy and low in carbohydrates.  Remember to gradually introduce new foods to your family.

Feel free to share any family favorites.
