Healthy lifestyle, two friends in a restaurant

When it comes to losing weight and being healthy, it is all about lifestyle. It is easy to think that the healthy choices are being made, especially when the choices involve suffering and denying things that we want. The following fictional story, drawn from real events, illustrates how people get things wrong when they think they are doing the right thing.

Wendy and Lisa meet at a restaurant for lunch.

Wendy; Hi lisa!
Lisa; Hi Wendy, I hope this place works for you, I know you are on a diet and trying to lose weight.
Wendy; I know you eat here often and that they have salads, I will be fine. I can just never figure out how you stay so skinny.
Lisa; Well I do play on a sports team with friends once a week and take a walk now and then, Bill took me dancing last week.
Wendy; I drag myself to the gym everyday and it doesn’t make a difference. I dread going to the gym. Same boring routine on the machines every day.
Lisa; Lets order.
Wendy; (to waiter) I’ll have the grilled chicken salad and a diet soda. Make sure there is extra dressing on the side and a small order of fries.
Lisa; (to waiter) I’ll just have the special sandwich and a cup of soup
Wendy; I wish I could have a sandwich, but I am trying to stay in control.
Lisa; Well that salad you ordered was huge. It had more meat and sauce than my sandwich.
Wendy; But, it is a salad, which is always more healthy.
Lisa; I’ll stick to enjoying my sandwich and soup.
{later}
Wendy; I am so glad I stuck to the salad and did not give in to temptation.
Lisa; It looked good.
Wendy; I stuck to just a salad, I am going to reward myself with a little dessert. Do you want anything?
Lisa; Hot tea would be fine.
Wendy; (to waiter) I need a small dessert and a coffee with extra creme and sugar, and a tea for Lisa
Lisa; Thanks
Wendy; I try so hard to lose weight, I just can’t understand how you can stay so skinny.
Lisa; I guess it is just the way I am.
