Warmer weather brings on the hunger for cold drinks. A favorite is a fruit smoothie. There are many smoothie shops that sell various fruit smoothies to enjoy, but they sometimes are not that healthy, especially with added sugars and fat.
The recipe below is quick and easy to prepare as is delicious treat for kids and adults. Plus it puts you in control of what type of ingredients you put in your smoothie.
Healthy Fruit Smoothies
- 1 scoop Jay Robb vanilla whey protein powder or any other brand
- 1 c. fat-free or 1% milk
- 1/2 to 3/4 c. frozen fruit
Using a small drink blender or regular blender place protein powder, milk and fruit in blender container. Blend until fruit is pulverized and the drink is thickened. Serves 1 or 2. Enjoy!
Suggestions: Strawberries, pineapple, mixed berries, bananas, peaches, nectarines, oranges and other fruit can be used either separately or mixed. If the fruit is not frozen, then add 3 or 4 ice cubes to the mixture.
There are other additions you can use in your smoothie like vanilla or almond extract , if you desire.
To make your smoothie even healthier with added nutrients and fiber add a teaspoon or two of wheat germ or unprocessed bran to your mixture.
You can also use 1/2 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of natural fruit juice in place of 1 cup of milk.
This smoothie can be used as a meal replacement if you are trying to lose or watching your weight.
For an extra treat, place smoothie in the freezer for an hour or two where it will be even more thickened like ice cream without all the fat and calories.
