The December holiday season is here, which means social gatherings and lots of food and drink at these celebrations. It is no surprise that weight gain and infectious illnesses seem to be common at this time of the year as people overindulge in not-so-healthy foods and beverages. It is especially important at this time of year to build self-discipline and learn to socialize and enjoy yourself without overstressing your body. One way to help break free of unhealthy holiday patterns is to learn healthier alternatives to traditional holiday treats. Nourishing natural foods can give us the energy we need to enjoy the holidays without making us regret our feasts.
To help support those wishing to have healthy holidays, vegan chef Cynthia Om is offering a special holiday cooking class at La Vie en Raw Cafe on Saturday, December 15th. Cynthia says "The bustling holiday season of joy is upon us and people are gathering around cocktails, cookies, roasted chicken, and other holiday treats. Unfortunately, these unhealthy habits lower your immune system and can make you feel the blues of the flu season. Now, you can still have the richness of the holiday foods without sacrificing your health and it is a wonderful gift to share. Making healthier choices will also help you avoid those extra holiday pounds."
There will be 2 classes Saturday. You can come and learn to prepare "Healthy Holiday Dishes" (12pm-3pm) or "Healthy Desserts" (4pm-7pm) at La Vie en Raw Cafe with Cynthia Om on Saturday, December 15, 2012. La Vie En Raw is located at 3808 SW 8th St., Coral Gables. There is free parking in the rear of the building.
