What better way to enjoy our fall weather and color than to get out and hike! East Bay Regional Park District has just announced a new free series of fitness hikes called Healthy Hikes. The sessions will begin with a briefing about the health benefits of hiking as well as safety tips. There will be provision for various levels of fitness—you can walk all or part of the route—as you build up your fitness level. No advance registration is required.
The first hike, in Briones Regional in central Contra Costa County will be on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 from 12:00 PM- 2:30 PM. The theme of the hike is the Emotional Benefits of Outdoor Exercise. The featured trail is a 6+ mile moderate to challenging hike as you move through oak woodland and riparian forest. Participants should meet at the Bear Creek Road Entrance to Briones. A hike in Las Trampas Wilderness will be on Friday, October 28, also 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM. The topic of this hike will be Sunlight, Exercise and Bones. - No registration is required to join staff and other hikers on these autumn adventures in our wonderful parks. Free.
- Wear sturdy shoes, layers appropriate to the weather, and sunscreen.
- Bring drinking water and (optional) an energy bar or similar snack. There are toilets at the trailheads.
