Bethenny Frankel is sharing her holiday favorites from her latest book, “Skinnygirl Solutions,” the follow-up to “Naturally Thin” and “The Skinnygirl Dish.” On Friday December 13, Bethenny shared “12 Days of Holiday Cocktails” on her blog to get us ready for the holiday season. These holiday favorite are an extension to what you will find in the book.
“Skinnygirl Solutions” seems to be an extension of “Naturally Thin.” If you've read it, and you've followed the tabloids and television shows based on Bethenny’s life than you know about the stress and divorce. You know that for most of us those types of events are what send us into a non-stop eating binge.
Frankel is well aware of those thoughts. In this book she goes one step further. In the first few pages it’s as if Bethenny is your best girlfriend discussing why she left reality television, how difficult was at that time, and how awkward living with her ex can be. Eventually she breaks into the evolution of “Naturally Thin” and how the new book “Skinnygirl Solutions” came to be.
During various sections of the book Bethenny breaks down the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to your food choices. She tells you what you should eat when you are sick, famished, having a bad, day, and ready to rip someone’s face off.
She uses her own voice, as if she’s speaking directly to you.
Healthy food choices when eating out for every type of restaurant.
She keeps it real. No fluff. No medical jargon.
It’s not just about weight loss. It’s about fitness, being a mom, health, overall wellness, beauty, time-management, organization, careers, cleaning, entertaining, money management, and everything else you could relate to in life.
The YUM Factor:
Recipes for guilt-free artichoke and spinach dip and chicken wings. Want Asian or Mexican? Craving Italian? There are recipes for any food craving. The book has quite a few recipes for all types of occasions and events such as tailgating, graduations and holiday parties. This was both pleasant and quite surprising considering this is not a cookbook. Many recipes are created by using simple swaps such as the chili uses meatless crumbles or ground turkey instead of beef.
With every group of recipes there are also cocktails. The best part is that you are not limited to the books. The website, even though there is a great deal of information about “Bethenny” the show, there are sections devoted to healthy food and cocktails.
Skinnygirl Chocolate Martini. Who ever thought a martini could be chocolate, low calorie and still sound so yummy?
Since Frankel is speaking to you like your best girl friend, if you aren’t a fan of honest, tell-it-like-it-is wording tossed around with a few curse words, this likely isn’t the book for you.
We know she’s lost 20 pounds and beat food addiction, but it’s different when you are 50-100lbs overweight. It’s hard to say that that weight groups is going to latch on to the “Skinny Girl” and “Naturally Thin” mentality of this book.
