Healthy breakfast ideas: Healthy breads

A quick breakfast when on the run can be bread toasted and spread with a topping.  But instead of plain old white bread toasted and spread with butter and jelly, try something healthier

Various types of bread such as, whole wheat, whole grain, rye or nut breads are available at most grocery stores and bakeries.

Healthy Toast Ideas:

Granola bread (try Farrell Family Organic Bread – Granola), toasted golden brown and spread with:

  • peanut, almond or cashew butter
  • whipped low-fat cream cheese and top with raspberry or strawberry jam
  • whipped low-fat flavored cream cheese such as honey nut or fruit flavored

For added nutrition sprinkle with chopped almonds, walnuts or pecans over the toppings.

Try Whole Wheat or 9 Grain Bread (Oroweat or similar brands), toasted golden brown:

  • Top with low-fat slice of cheddar cheese, broil for a few minutes until the cheese melts
  • Top with low-fat cottage cheese and sprinkle with wheat germ and cinnamon-sugar or fresh sliced strawberries
