The fragrant aroma of apples and cinnamon wafting from the kitchen will whet your appetite for the yummy fall through winter favorite.
What You Need:
(Makes: 8 servings)
1/3 cup of sugar
1 tablespoon of cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
4 cups of tart apples (about 4 large), peeled, sliced
1/3 cup of orange juice
For the Topping:
1 cup all-purpose of flour
1/3 cup plus 2 teaspoons of sugar, divided
1 & 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 cup of cold butter, cubed
1/2 cup of fat-free milk
What to Do:
STEP 1) In a large bowl, combine the sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add apples and orange juice; toss to coat. Transfer to an 11x7 inch baking dish coated with cooking spray.
STEP 2) Make the topping: by combining the flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk just until moistened.
STEP 3) Drop eight mounds of the topping mixture onto the apple mixture. Sprinkle with remaining sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into topping comes out clean. Best when served warm.
