In a continued effort to support the fitness goals of its clients, Boston-based Healthworks gym launched a new weight loss program called Drop 10 that promises to help its clients loose 10 pounds in two months with an integrated fitness and nutrition program.
If swimsuit anxiety is a staple of your spring wardrobe, you may want to take advantage of the new program, one of the most successful in the club’s history. The program was launched in February and just three weeks later boasted a total loss of 209 pounds.
The eight-week program consists of:
- One private initial needs assessment in which weight, resting metabolic weight and body fat percentage is measured.
- Sixteen group sessions comprising a 55-minute workout, weekly weigh-in, nutrition handouts, and a weekly challenge (such as holding a plank or completing a pull up).
Participants are expected to work out at least five days a week and stick to a 1400 calorie diet whose guidelines were established with the help of Nancy Clark, a registered dietician and sports nutritionist at Healthworks. Weekly nutrition handouts are offered to provide dieters with tips and tricks such as how to choose healthy proteins.
The Drop 10 weight loss program was designed to help women boost their overall health and loose weight. It can be tailored for women with different weight loss goals and even those who want to maintain their weight with the support of a group.
“When women come to us and say weight loss is a goal we will have a program to support them,” said Melissa Thorton, Healthworks’ Corporate Fitness Director about the inspiration for the new program. Ms. Thorton explained the mission of the Drop 10 program is “to improve health and at the same time help women lose weight and get on track for a good, healthy lifestyle change.”
Healthworks first opened its doors in 1977 in Salem, Massachusetts and has since grown into the largest women’s gym franchise in the Boston area with over 18,000 members, 500 employees, 5 locations and 2 non-profit fitness centers.
