The official website for federal health insurance exchanges is receiving higher than expected hits despite technical glitches that are hampering full enrollment. Healthcare.gov had five times as many visitors during its opening days than expected. Original estimates had the number of unique visitors to Healthcare.gov around 55,000. The site actually had more than 250,000 visits since its launch.
Administration officials say more than 476,000 health insurance applications have been filed through the Healthcare.gov website and state exchanges. No numbers have been released yet regarding application completions via the federal website. Some successes have been seen on the state level including encouraging numbers from Kentucky, New York and California.
