Colds and the flu are common this time of year and in some cases can occur year-round as well. They do seem worse in winter months but a summer cold can be just as annoying and discouraging.

Eat these to keep illness at a distance!

Consuming healthy foods can aid in the recovery process. They can actually give your immune system a boost. They can also substantially increase the fighting power of the antibodies your system produces.

Choose foods that are high in protein. Enjoy the look and vitamins from colorful fruits. Remember that chicken soup is considered natures’ natural penicillin, you mother has been telling you that for years.

When you feel ill and under the weather eat these to kelp drive the cold away:

  • Fish
  • Honey
  • Lentils
  • Mushrooms

  • Turkey
  • Whole grains
  • Yogurt

Foods to avoid:

  • Chocolates
  • Dairy products
  • Red meats

Fight congestion with a little heat and warm liquids:

  • Chicken broth

  • Drink herbal tea

  • Green tea
  • Season with garlic
  • Season with hot pepper
