Health movie month

Join Sprout Nourishment for a month of watching health documentaries and then discussing them. The event is the Sprout Health Movie Month, December 2013.

Each week, the group will watch a health and nutrition related documentary, on your own time and location choice. Discussion after the movie can continue online about what you liked or disliked, had questions about, how you can share related information, or any other related comments.

We want to bring an open mind to the topics presented in the movies. They may be loaded with facts or it may just be opinions; scenarios may have changed (for better or worse) since the film was made; and some of these documentaries are meant to try and start a culture change/revolution while others may just be a means for someone to make some cash.

The first week of December will cover the movie Food Matters : You are what you eat. This 2008 documentary examines how the food we eat can help or hurt our health. Nutritionists, naturopaths, doctors, and journalists weigh in on topics organic food, food safety, raw foodism, and nutritional therapy.

The second week will focus on Super Size Me. One of the originals in this category, the movie follows the writer and director, Morgan Spurlock. He examines the influence of the fast food industry and personally explores the consequences on his health of a diet made up of only McDonald's food for one month

The third week looks at The World According to Monsanto. This documentary tells the story of how the American corporation Mansanto has developed food staples (soy, corn, etc...) that have been genetically modified (GM). This leads to increased yields to feed the world, but potentially at the cost of our long term health.

The last movie will be a 2010 choice called Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. Joe Cross was well over 100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids, and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease. The movie chronicles Joe's personal mission to regain his health with the body's ability to heal itself.

Watch these movies and join the discussions online.
