Health Michael Douglas and throat cancer

If you saw the interview with David Letterman the night of August 31st, 2010 you hardly noticed a difference in Michael’s voice. First he talked about his new movie the Wall Street series.

He did express his radiation, and how it burned and hurt his throat. Michael also said he is going through a regimen of chemotherapy. Sounding very positive about his stage 4 throat cancer, he said “I can and will beat this.”

He also talked about his father Kurt and what he told his son “You can do it.” Kurt Douglas has a severe stroke and never let it keep him down so Kurt would be an excellent example, and inspiration to his son Michael.

Michael said it all started at the beginning of summer when he noticed a sore throat that bothered him. He thought it would certainly go away so they continued with his wife Catherine and children on vacations before making the movie.

He added he did go through an itinerary of doctors who all said it was nothing. During the movie Michael tried again just three weeks ago, and saw another doctor who told him “say awe I’ll clip a piece toward the back of your throat.” That was that biopsy that Michael discovered he had throat cancer, but added it’s in a small area and not spread any further.

Michael’s bravery about answering all of Letterman’s questions, of which there were many shows the public you can be strong and think positive. A good role model example for all people to see and hear.

Michael looked well, but noticed that he did not have a necktie on, and one could see the very red skin on his neck from the radiation. The show started with Michael walking outside of Letterman’s show, and talking to people as he passed.

This author has him in all prayers as I’m sure many people do. We all wish you well Mr. Douglas.

Joyce, this article broke my heart. My dad had throat cancer and it didn't affect his voice at all. We never knew what stage my dads was in, but like Michael, my dad was extremely brave about the whole thing. Unfortunately, his diabetes interfered with his treatment, and ultimately killed him. I don't know how long my father would have lived had he not had diabetes, but it just goes to show, how diabetes can impact other health issues.

Dawn: I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for commenting. Cancer is a difficult disease, and a stage4 is really hard to cure, although I've known a few people who survived this stage. My friend had stage 4 breast cancer, and they came out and told the husband they needed his consent to remove two ribs that it went into, and she lived to talk about it. She said it was her Faith. Only the Good Lord knows our fate. Love You Sweetie!

I keep reading, and sharing, just was not able to comment...back! Great article- cancer I am quite sure has affected each of us in some way. For myself it was a grandmother and metastatic breast cancer that morphed into bone cancer etc.
