Health Facts About Adults:
• 3 out of every 5 Americans are overweight, and 50 million are obese.
• There are three times as many overweight adolescents in the U.S. as there were 30 years ago.
• Physical inactivity contributes to 400,000 preventable deaths in the U.S. each year, second only to tobacco-related deaths.
• Less than 1/3 of Americans engage in the recommended amounts of exercise.
• In 2000, the economic costs associated with obesity were $117 billion.
• 40% of adults in the United States do not participate in any leisure time activity.
• On the average, people who are physically active outlive those who are inactive.
For the purpose of this article let me just repeat two that seem particularly motivating:
• Physical inactivity contributes to 400,000 preventable deaths in the U.S. each year, second only to tobacco-related deaths.
• On the average, people who are physically active outlive those who are inactive.
This seems motivational, wouldn’t you agree? How about the quality of life that exercising pays back to you!
