The Dallas music scene has been booming the last few years thanks in part to an influx of loaded music festivals and the resurrection of Deep Ellum. Now, Dallas music lovers have someone else to thank for reinvigorating the local music scene. Cue Red Bull Sound Select.
Red Bull Sound Select will be showcasing the Los Angeles based band Health along with electronic punk rockers Cutter and local pop group Blackstone Rangers tomorrow night Three Links in Dallas in what should be an amazing show. Expect some intricate electronic ambience, some gritty driving rock rhythms, and a good bit of feel good pop thrown in the mix. This concert will be the most recent installment of the monthly concerts that Red Bull Sound Select currently holds in Dallas and eleven other cities across the United States. As with most of their shows, the cover is only $3 with RSVP or $7 without. ALL of the proceeds go towards supporting the night's local artist, Blackstone Rangers. In fact, promoting local music and artist development is the brilliant idea behind the entire program.
Launched in February of 2013, Red Bull Sound Select went on to produce 80+ local shows in 11 different key music markets putting more than 150 artists on the same bill as major headliners curated by music industry heavy hitters like Sub Pop Records, Brooklyn Vegan, and Filter Magazine. That's 80+ shows in just 2013. More than 144 shows are already planned for 2014 with more in the works.
The best part of the program is that it truly does support local music. Like tomorrow's show in Dallas, all of the proceeds from each showcase go to support the local artist of the night. The program allows local musicians to break into bigger and better venues, festivals, gain access to quality recording studios, and best of all get invaluable exposure by playing alongside top-tier artists. Air Review, ASTR, Bagheera, Chance The Rapper, Cherub, Night Drive, Shy Girls, and Speak are just a few of the great many amazing artists that have been working with Red Bull Sound Select, including Cutter and Blackstone Rangers.
All of this to say that the show tomorrow night will be great! Health is well known for their intense yet cerebral high energy performances. Paired together with the ambient sample heavy Cutter and the delightful shoe-gaze pop of Blackstone Rangers, dull moments will be few and far between. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show will begin at 9 p.m. at Three Links in Dallas.
