The dichotomy of democracy and totalitarism is actual topic today because of those who believe Obama means propaganda of socialism in the USA and because of the increased crisis in Eastern Europe and globally since the communist regimes cannot be finally revealed as fatal danger for humanity and they continue to spread the virus of crime and corruption, and mafia worldwide.
Although many may believe that democracy means Freedom of doing whatever one wants to do, in fact it is not since human society is a social closed system. Today open is very popular social word, but because of the closed societal systems – we open windows in the system, we do not open the system. It we open the systems, it will die. We change social systems, we do not open them.
Then, the successful democracy like the USA is based on what one cannot do. This fact can be characterized by totalitarians as regime, but What one cannot do creates exactly the success. In case of Health care: You can have not insurance is a totalitarian (pseudo-democratic) principal in democracy. It is wrong. Either everybody should be attached for free to the national healthcare, or must attach him/herself since the health of one person equals the health of society. In every society we depend on each other. The society is interested in one to be healthy not only because of the human nature but because of the other members – disease may create (especially mental disease) so many negative consequences. Free healthcare can be also pseudo-democratic since it is just a cloth of terrifying dictatorships (e.g. the communist regimes in Eastern Europe in later 20th century). In the same way health care if I want is not a democratic principal and very dangerous for society, but as a whole cannot change the general image of the social system in case of strong democracy.
The freedom of choice to have or not have health insurance is mostly an American variant of democracy which may become a serious problem in future because of the increased mental problems in the global society (direct results of invaded violence in culture), as well as of poverty. Obama healthcare may make the American democratic system stronger and all the conflicting discussions, some with reasonable arguments, on the whole either can be resolved within Obama Heathcare innovation or can contribute to improvement of this healthcare as required for social membership in the USA (residents, citizens, tourists, students, etc.). If you do not want to pay for health insurance – leave elsewhere even if you are citizen! We do not want dangerous people in the streets just because they believe they do not afford to pay healthcare. Do we have nice roads? Yes, we do. Why? - Because everybody every year pays at least probably abt $100. Do we want to meet each other as healthy people? We have to pay for health.
There are many people today in the USA who want different leader than Obama – Obama is a hard rock for people who during the Cold War were very happy since the authority of individuals might have been more important than even the law. This was during the Cold War, and the excuse was the widespread totalitarian communism which was really a huge danger for humanity. Obama has been rebuilding post-Cold War America as a great political architect and it is pity that the Cold-War-like so-called conservatives don’t want to adapt themselves to the new political global situation and want past to be present. As great Americans, and everybody can be, first we need to understand that healthcare is a serious (most serious) social problem and it is not an individual choice. Second, the health facilities in the USA are over-expensive and one Must Healthcare will create opportunity for more non-expensive healthcare services.
To be great American today means to do only such things which help American democracy and American society and advance American democracy and American society. One of them should be not to be able to live without affordable healthcare. Americans like reality, not mythology about democracy.
