Chocolate, one of our favorite desserts and snacks. Chocolate has gottan a bad reputation throughout the years, but this delicious treat is actually really good for you in moderation. Our bodies are in constant need of repair, we have free radicals that need to be flushed out along with other nasties. These free radicals can cause blockage in the artries and can contribute to damage to the heart itself. One wonderful food that can help us with that is chocolate, it is a natural antioxident that helps repair cellular damage, this helps our immune system to function properly. Chocolate also helps reduce the risk of high blood pressure, and keeps the platelets from clumping together. Chocolate has so many good physical qualites, but what about psychological qualites? Well it has been proven that has a substance called theobromine which has a simular make up of caffine. During times of PMS and menstration women have lower levels of seratonin, this also happens during depression; so by eating chocolate it has the ability to boost seratonin levels. This explains why women crave chocolate at these times of their cycle. But before you go running to the store to buy every chocolate bar on the shelf, lets examine to best type of chocolate to consume. Dark chocolate would probably be your best bet. This type of chocolate only has it's natural fats in it which is monounsaturated fat the same fat that is in olive oil, this has been proven to be good for you keeping those arteries nice and clear. Also dark chocolate that doesn't have added ingredients like carmel or marshmellows. There are tons of choices for milk chocolate out there also, but milk chocolate has butterfat in it making not healthy at all. This can cause acne and other problems that are not healthy, almost doing the opposite of what dark chocolate can do for you. So dark chocolate with any extra candies is the best way to go. Another wonderful thing about dark chocolate is that you don't even have to eat a ton of it to reap the benefits, just an ounce with a regular healthy diet is suffiencnt to reap the benefits. Also remember that alot of these chocolates are produced internationally in poor countries for cheap unfair labor, so when picking up your next chocolate bar make sure that it is fair trade and all natural.
