Here’s a heads up for Sherlock Holmes fans, L.A. Theatre Works will record “The Hound of the Baskervilles” featuring Seamus Dever (“Castle”) as Sherlock Holmes, Sarah Drew (“Grey’s Anatomy”) as Beryl Stapleton, James Marsters (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) as Sir Henry Baskerville and Geoffrey Arend (“Super Troopers,” “500 Days of Summer”) as Dr. John Watson.
Adapted by David Pichette and R. Hamilton Wright, the recording is produced by Susan A. Loewenberg and directed by Alexis Jacknow. Also, joining the cast on stage will be Christopher Neame in the roles of Frankland and Sir Charles Baskerville, Darren Richardson as as Mr. Barrymore and Moira Quirk as Mrs. Barrymore.
The California premiere of this fresh take on Sherlock Holmes' most baffling case adds a dash of contemporary wit to one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most memorable mysteries as “the sole surviving Baskerville returns from Canada to fight the ancient curse of a supernatural hound, adjust to the strange class system and fall in love with his beautiful neighbor.”
All performances will be recorded live in front of an audience (without sets or costumes) to air on L.A. Theatre Works' syndicated radio theater series, which broadcasts weekly on public radio stations nationwide (locally, in Southern California, on KPFK 90.7 FM) and can be streamed on demand at www.latw.org.
“The Hound of the Baskervilles” records 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 12 and 13, 2014, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, June 14 and 4 p.m. Sunday, June 15. Tickets are $15-$60. Call 310-827-0889 or visit www.latw.org.
