Headliners set for Cajun and Blues Festival

As is evident by my recent postings, the coming of spring brings with it a slew of press releases announcing the lineup and other pertinent details regarding the region’s many summer music festival/series lineups. The past few weeks have seen missives from such cultural heavyweights as SFJAZZ, Monterey Jazz Festival, Yerba Buena Gardens and others. Announcements form the major pop-jazz winery series are due imminently.
Amid all that calendar-filling information, I want to make sure you include what I consider to be one of the season’s best bashes and an absolute must for Northern California zydeco and Cajun fans. I speak of the Isleton Cajun and Blues Festival, set for June 14-15 in the titular Delta community about halfway between Rio Vista and Lodi. Here are the details.

Isleton Cajun and Blues Festival

Welcome to the Isleton Cajun and Blues Festival, a family-friendly weekend of great Zydeco and Cajun music, a feast of Bayou cuisine, exciting vendors, street entertainers and kid-pleasing amusements — hosted every Fathers Day weekend by the Isleton Chamber of Commerce. The 2014 Isleton Cajun and Blues Festival welcomes our many thousands of fest-goers to experience the beauty of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, with its 1,100 miles of waterways. Celebrate with music and food, dancing and friends.

The musical lineup announced so far – check out the names below – represents the best collection of Cajun and Zydeco talent Northern Californians are going to see all year. We’re talking Marcia Ball, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, JD McPherson, Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas, Andre Thierry and Zydeco Magic, Terry Hanck, Ray Bonneville and Richie Lawrence, Wendy DeWitt, Kyle Rowland Blues Band and Red’s Blues with Steve Freund. Seriously, this is a must-not-miss event for anyone with a taste for the music, cuisine and culture of Louisiana.
