It’s the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, and it takes place each February at New Smyrna Speedway in Samsula, Florida. Some of the best asphalt stock car drivers from around the country come down to Florida to get the racing season started, and this year’s event takes place Friday, February 14th through Saturday, February 22nd.
With eight nights of racing over nine nights, there’s something at the track for fans in town for action at Daytona International Speedway or Volusia Speedway Park. The Super Late Models, Tour-Type Modifieds (based on NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Series), Pro Late Models and IMCA-Type Modifieds will be in action throughout the festivities, and the K&N Pro Series East visits for its season opener.
Action gets underway on Friday and Saturday, February 14th and 15th with all four series plus (tentatively) Pro Trucks before the K&N Pro Series East takes the track for their 2014 opener on Sunday, February 16th; the Tour-Type Mods are also on the schedule. The Pro Late Models headline the show on Monday, February 17th, backed up by the Super Late Models and IMCA-Type Mods.
After a night off on Tuesday, February 18th for the UNOH Battle at the Beach at Daytona international Speedway, the action picks back up on Wednesday, February 19th with the annual John Blewett III Memorial Tour-Type Modified 76-lap event along with a 75-lap IMCA-Type Modified race; the Super Late Models and Pro Late Models are also on the race card.
On Thursday, February 20th, the Pro Late Model class has a 100-lap event (with Super Late Models, Tour-Type Modifieds and Super Stocks supporting), and Friday, February 21st is the annual Richie Evans Memorial 100-lap event for the Tour-Type Modifieds (Mini-Stocks, Super Late Models and Pro Late Models are also racing). The final night, Saturday, February 22nd, is the inaugural Bruce Gowland Memorial, with a 100-lap event for the Super Late Models, a 50-lap event for the Sportsman, and Pro Late Model action as well.
