Terry Arrington is coming back to Clarksville to be a head football coach again.

10 years after resigning at Kenwood where he coached for six years, Arrington has been announced as the new football coach at Clarksville Northeast.

I am excited about going back to Clarksville to be a head coach again," Arrington said.

"I can't wait to get started working with the young men that have made Northeast what it has been the last couple of years."

"I'm also looking forward to working with Mr. Tharpe (Northeast principal) and Ms. Yarbrough (Northeast AD) and all of the coaches that have made Northeast a state contender the last couple of years," continued Arrington.

He replaces Issac Shelby who resigned last month to take the head coaching job at his alma mater Clarksville High.
Shelby complied a 32-20 record in his four years at Northeast, which included a 5A semifinal run last year and a 8-6 record.

Under Shelby, Northeast has made four playoff appearances including two trips to the 5A Quarterfinals (2010 and 2012), a second round trip in 2011, to go along with the semifinal appearance in 2013.

"Coach Shelby did a great job with the program and hopefully we, as a staff, can continue that success and improve upon what they have started," Arrington said.

Arrington served as Kenwood's head football coach from 1997-2003 and led the Knights to a 10-4 record and a school best Class 4A Semifinal round appearance in 1999.

He also had successful stints as the head coach at Cheatham County (1994-96, 21-9 record, two playoff appearances in 1994 and 1995) and Friendship Christian (1989-91, 19-11, two playoff appearances in 1990 and 1991).

"The Northeast High Football program is excited about moving forward with Coach Terry Arrington leading the way," Northeast Athletic Director Kim Yarbrough said. "Coach Arrington's message to the team was Academics first, Appearance everyday, and a positive Attitude."

"He is here to continue building on a successful program and the program's goal is to win a state championship."

Recently he has been an assistant coach at Goodpasture (2010-13) and Davidson Academy (2006-09).
While at Davidson Academy, Arrington was a part of a coaching staff that won three Division II-A state titles in 2005, 2006 and 2008.

During his coaching time at Goodpasture, Arrington and the Cougars made a 3A state title game appearance in 2010.

Currently there are open jobs at Cascade, Mt. Pleasant, Brighton, Dresden, Mt. Juliet Christian and Fairley as schools currently looking for a head coach.
